 "Awesome on my (Mini)Mac" 2010-04-13

By Maros

This is THE monitor to get for those with a (Mini) Mac and who want to stay within a budget of sorts.

It's just great. Not really much else to say. Not in the habit of handing out 5 star reviews (except for ASUS products) but this display just does it's thing awesomely. Looks great gaming, programming (Mac, iPhone, Scripting, etc), and watching TV & Videos.

Will be getting a second one for dual display like the box in the front room.

Two points of ignorance I will admit to is not having tried it below 1920x1200, which some may wish more info on. Also, I haven't tried it via the VGA cable.

Those points of ignorance notwithstanding, ASUS is definitely keeping the quality, IMO.

 "Maximizes Price and Performance" 2010-04-08

By Amazonian Shopaholic (Houston, Tx)

Love it (them)... Bought one almost 8-months ago... works great, awesome clarity... liked it so much... I bought a second for a dual monitor setup about two months ago ... its freaking sick ... and if tri-monitor mounts weren't so ridiculously expensive... I'd purchase a third.

"Large monitor- a deal from Amazon" 2010-03-28

By T. Tuenge (North Carolina)

I shopped for a large monitor for quite a while and finally settled on this Asus 25.5 inch. I design for weaving fabric and it gives me a very large area for designing plus I can use my regular laptop screen in conjunction to hold extra menus and save even more space on the Asus for the design. I also liked the 16x10 ratio to give me more height and the native resolution of 1920 x 1200. I had no problems setting it up. Just followed the enclosed directions.

I had read other reviews that said that the buttons on the front of the monitor were not responsive, but I've found that holding the "on" button down a few seconds brings the monitor up. Easy when you know what to do. I have not made a lot of adjustments to the screen, but read the info and that does not seem hard either if you follow instructions.

I do not like the connections being along the bottom because you have to hold it awkwardly to attach them, but once you get them done, not much need to change anything.

My husband is jealous now. His monitor is only 23 inches.

 "Linux Feedback" 2010-03-24

By Peter Besenbruch

I purchased this monitor, because of the multiplicity of inputs, the size, and because others thought it was a good monitor for the price. Yes, this is an e-cheapo monitor, but it is astounding how good it is for the price. It requires some color adjusting, basically dropping the blue channel by 30%, and the brightness by 50%. When you do, the results are quite good.

I have this attached to a computer running Linux, specifically Debian Lenny, running a KDE desktop. With the new monitor installed, the resolution of the old monitor appeared (1600x1200), but the new native resolution of 1920x1200 also appeared as an option, and it was easy to switch to it. Text looks crisp and smooth. KDE and XORG are doing something right with the font smoothing.

I also have it connected to an upscaling DVD player, connected to the HDMI input. The images are clean, clear, and big. Big is good.

By Arturo Fukuda Ll (PERU)
No gripes so far on this item, it comes with a USB cable and a nice zipper case that fits almost exactly with the hard drive. You dont need a sotware to run it on windows vista, you just need to connect it to the USB port to get ready the speed transfer is quite a bit fast (USB 2.0 up to 480MBs) a blue LED indicates the data transfer activity, you cant go wrong with this external HD....highly recommeded

 "Sleek and competitively priced" 2009-01-15
By Justin B. Flowers
I'm sure that within a few months, this won't be that great of a deal just because technology changes so fast (and because usb 3.0 is on the way) but for 85 dollars in December 08 from Amazon, this was a very competitive deal.

I've been very happy with the product.

First of all, I'd like to say that the packaging is very consumer friendly. Very easy to open and sturdy.

The external drive itself is very sleek and small. I'd say it's a little larger and thicker than an iphone. It has a slightly grippy bottom side which prevents the drive from sliding around on a hard surface. The top side has a metallic finish that looks really nice, but tends to hold fingerprints.

One of my favorite aspects is that you don't need an external power supply as the drive is powered via the single usb cable. This is great because it will leave your desk or work area looking much less cluttered and because this makes it much easier to pick up and plug into another computer or device (such as an xbox 360).

This is the main reason I chose this device over others. It really is portable.

I should mention that if you want to use an external hard drive with an xbox 360, the drive must be formatted to a FAT32 file system, which has it's drawbacks, such as a 4 GiB maximum file size.

To overcome this problem I created a FAT32 partition and an EXT3 partition (which is the standard for many versions of linux). Linux can access both of these partitions, but windows needs a driver to access the ext partition. I put a copy of the driver installer on the fat32 partition so that I could access the whole drive from most windows machines.

The drive has so much space (320GiB) that having two partitions on it hasn't even become a space issue yet.

If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say partition, you should just know that...

This drive comes pre-formatted with NTFS, which is a good file system in that it is accessible from most operating systems as far as I know (Windows, Linux, Mac)

It comes with a faux-leather case which I always keep the drive in. I just unzip it when I'm using it so that heat is allowed to escape. I feel like this case would be good at protecting the drive from being damaged by fall, (though this has not happened to mine yet). One problem with the case is that there really isn't much storage room for anything else besides the drive and possibly a couple of sd cards. It would be nice if the USB cable would also fit within.

I didn't test any of the software that came with the product as I have no reason to.

Overall, I'd recommend this product as I have had no problems with it yet.
