We bought this portable DVD player probably 18 months ago to keep our daughter (now 3) occupied on long car trips. It's been great! Very reliable and she loves the large screen. I just wish you could adjust the volume with the remote. We thought about an integrated system in our next vehicle but do prefer the portability.

I received this item in a reasonable amount of time and took it on vacation. This is the first time that I ever purchased a Coby product. I was not able to hook the DVD player up to the TV in the motel room. My traveling companion and I were able to watch it without the headphones. Both picture and sound quality were excellent. Love it!!! The Coby works great. The remote control takes a bit of study but all the features are there... The battery lasts about 3 hours. More than enough for a good movie... The screen is beautiful. Unit is very reliable.



Get the Case Logic brand travel bag to go with it ($29 Amazon). The bag is well padded and has room for all the accessorie and the player.



When you first open the unit a small plastic insert holds the player head for shipping.. I would recommend keeping this insert and when you travel use it to secure the head. The head is the most delicate part of all players.



I used it all summer when TDY. I had a full size player in the apartment but the Coby was better and had better sound on the earphones. Plus the movable screen made for comfortable viewing.



The two earphones are super nice and has the new head band that is very comfortable, super duper sound quality....



The Coby is not a toy and not recommended for kids...

The overall construction is metal and good plastic.

I had bought the 3 season set of the show "Deadwood", and needed some way to play it without upsetting the rest of the family. The language in this show is really really bad. Sitting in the basement and watching it is uncomfortable so I bought this Coby player after reading some of the reviews on here. I find the audio and video to be as well as expected and don't have a single complaint; however, I use this sitting on my sofa and not in a vehicle, so I can't speak to the method most people use a portable dvd player. I also have played only pre-recorded dvd's and cant speak to home made copies. If I had to come up with a complaint for balance, it would be that the headsets provided (2) hurt my ears. Overall I finds this excellent value.

I am so happy that I found this product. It has so many features, including a larger screen that swivels. I like having access to viewing my pictures on my SD card also. The picture quality is good and so is the sound. I can pause the movie for a short while and return to where I left off without it taking you completely back out to the main menu and having to start it all over again. At the price I paid, I should have purchased a few more as gifts.

 "Many features, but unreliable, shoddy workmanship." 2009-10-05

I replaced the first one of these within 30 days, as it just quit playing DVDs completely, and one of the wireless headphones never worked. The replacement unit worked okay for about a week, and now it is locking up, overheating, getting stuck, yet randomly working fine. It is very finicky about power. It seems to not like car power, only the wall outlet. Performance is more reliable (though not good) when plugged into an outlet. The screen scratches easily and should have come with one of those plastic screen protectors. The remote is abysmally designed, crammed with buttons and confusing. The wireless headphones are a good idea, and work okay most of the time (if they work at all). Unfortunately, they are prone to bursts of loud popping static from interfering signals. Within a day I gave my kids some cheap wired headphones to replace the wireless ones.



If it were just one unit, I would say I got unlucky, but two in a row intermittently failing within a month of purchase indicates poor quality at the manufacturer, and it's just not worth it. I genuinely regret not spending the money on a video MP3/MP4 player instead.

I purchased this unit for my daughter to use in the car on trips. She watches Elmo, SpongeBob, and the Muppets, and she's happy. After two or three weeks, I no longer had a happy camper in the back seat. The picture went out of phase, discs wouldn't load, total disappointment. I called the vendor and was referred to Coby. Getting in touch with Coby has, so far, been an exercise in futility. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

I have purchased 2 of these DVD players. The first time I bought one, it lasted about a year then the remote quite working, even after I replaced the batteries, then a week later the player just wouldn't turn on anymore. I wasn't rough with it, only used it at home. I got my money back. I figured it was probably a bad DVD player, so I went and purchased another. It lasted a couple months longer than the last one and it did exactly the same thing when it broke down. I don't understand why these DVD players quit like that, but they just don't last. If you buy one, get it with the 2 year warranty so you can get your money back when it breaks down, because it will.

I bought this product based upon the good reviews it got. I really loved it as I have a small car and can't use the flip screen DVD players because my 1 year old son can reach them and push the buttons. I loved how easy it was to use, with the remote as well. However, after 3 times of use I noticed it wasn't keeping my son entertained (which was not normal) and when I took a look at it, the screen was blank. Even though the DVD was playing and you could hear it there was nothing displayed on the screen. It was black. I tried exchanging it for another because I really did like it but Amazon didn't have it in stock so they will issue me a refund. In the meantime I have purchased the Sony FX-930 so I will be able to post a review soon for it.

I was not sure about the Coby brand but I had done some shopping around for 10" portable DVD players for around $150 and this one had the best price and reviews so I tried it. The ear phones that came with it were very cheap and one of them didn't work but this didn't stop me from giving this product 5 stars. It is sturdy even with the swivel screen. The picture is good, the sound, without head phones, is not real loud but with the ear phones it is just fine. The battery lasts about 4 hours and it comes with a car charger as well as the wall charger.

The DVD player from Coby performed well at the beginning. By the second week, however, it would sometimes hang during a move. But by week four, it had stopped reading any DVD or CD. It would spin, but not recognize that a CD or DVD had been inserted. Lucky me, it was within 30 days of purchase.



However, Amazon's customer service has been great and prompt.

My husband and I bought this player less than four months ago and it has already stopped working! This was an adult owned product, well cared for and moderately used. We are very disappointed and sorry that we didn't purchase any kind of an extended warranty. This Coby was a replacement for our portable Insignia dvd player that served us well for over two years. We have had problems with Coby electronics before and for now on we are going to stick with better brands like Sony. I guess you get what you pay for!

Bought this for my daughter's birthday so I wanted something inexpensive, but decent quality. For the price - this portable DVD player is fantastic. It came with many accessories and my daughter loved the swivel screen feature. This has a larger screeen than most other portable players. The quality of the picture is wonderful. It has been used around the house, in the car, visiting friends - so it has seen quite a bit of use. So far - she has no complaints except that she forgets to charge it - then forgets to bring her charger with her. I noticed that the push open feature of the player (to change DVD) seemed a little difficult/a little off, but have had no issues with it. Overall, I was very pleased with the product - great value!

I've tried several portable DVD players and this was the best. It ran smoothly right out of the box, playing older DVD's , newer DVD's, CD-RW disks of music and video files, everything I played in it worked perfectly. The built in screen is clear enough and big enough to display all aspect ratios crisply, the built in stereo speakers are more than adequate to produce the full range of audio, and the unit comes with all the cables you will need for hookup to a stereo receiver and/or to a TV or monitor if you want. I used this unit both ways, as a portable player using its built-in screen and features, and also hooked it up to my 20 inch television and technics stereo. The image was excellent on the television and the sound was very deep and full through the stereo receiver. The remote is very slender and feels a little too light, but it worked as it should as long as I aimed it directly at the front of the unit. I was about eleven feet away and it worked fine. Still, I would treat the remote carefully, don't accidentally sit on it or leave it to get stuck between the sofa cushions. I say this because the buttons on the DVD player itself are a little awkward to use. The are under the built in screen and not positioned very well. The buttons on the unit do work, I've tested them all, and they function as they are supposed to, but it's much easier to control it with the remote, so you want to make sure you don't damage the remote. The built in 360 degree swivel screen is great. It functions well no matter how far you have it turned. Though the screen is large enough to watch comfortably from about ten feet away, you will do better sitting about eight feet or less from it. All in all, I have not been able to find anything negative about this unit, except as I mentioned with regard to the buttons on the unit itself. I highly recommend this portable DVD player.

We have used this player a few times now including on an air plane and also in the car. We bought it for my 2 year old daughter and it has kept her entertained. The volume turns up really loud which is nice if you don't want to use the headphones. The controls are easy to use. The only complaint I have is that when you put the player in the sleeve to attach it to the headrest - the sensor for the remote is blocked so you have to hold the remote at a weird angle or do everything manually. So far though this has been a great buy. Hopefully it will last for a while.
