Prompt delivery. Easy to carry. Good battery life. On the road I needed email, skype and internet access. These were all good. Not being a knowledgable user I had problems when I lost the use of the mouse. My son was able to restore it and he didn't know how he did it. so all is well.

I got the ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch White Netbook last week. I read Amazon customer reviewer Sam's review. At first I balked at getting a white one, but Sam convinced me and he was right. I took a look at the black one's at a local retail store. I realized the black one would bring out the Adrian Monk in me. The fingerprints were disgusting. I know some people don't care about the cosmetics, but I work hard for my money and would be seriously plexed out by something looking old and grimey after only 5 minutes out of the box. Additionally, the bright white has the "uber" appeal found in Apple products. Performance-wise it's...a netbook. You won't be doing any serious processor-intensive work with this, but it handles Microsoft Office 2007 without any problems. Asus provides MS Works, a trial version of MS Office Home & Student Office(which can be activated if you already own the equivalent level license), utilities, entertainment software and a restore disk. I have to say customer support was great answering all of my inquiries within 24hrs. Asus has been around for years as a component-maker for the big computer names, and now they are making a name which is becoming increasingly recognizable to retail consumers. PS: Since cases/sleeves lined with colored/dyed fabric may be an issue for a white netbook (yes colors can bleed in some cases),check out the Microsoft foam-lined 11" sleeve/case it has handles and it provides protection which is superior to the cheapo sleeves. It was actually cheaper than the lesser quality products you'll see. I bought mine from Amazon seller ANTonline...they are great!

Great netbook. The only problem is Windows 7. I can't get used to some of the features. The battery in the energy saving mode last on an average 10+ hours using a variety of programs that include graphics. I read reviews from others about freeze ups but have not seen any in appx. 4 weeks of use. Windows 7 has been a little goofy with loading and running some programs with graphics as it wants to change as you go into battery save mode. Overall I would buy again but not to replace my standard laptop. Keys can be mastered but it takes some time getting the feel.

My Asus came a few weeks ago and I am still getting more fun-time all the time. I feel it meets all product details as described in reviews. I am not a computer guru and have a lot to learn yet. The weight met my criteria, the ease of handling is comfortable, especially the 'chicklet' keys; they have a great feel! There are still aspects I need to work on to learn to use all that is available (like the Asus Quick start - I have no idea how to do that). Then there is the fact that Microsoft has made it a two time purchase in order to have the best quality...by this I refer to the Windows 7 (starter) that came on the computer would not allow me to add another gig of ram unless I order the Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. Thus I did order that and received the (disc free) download kit which I have yet to find someone who can do it for me without calling the Geek squad again. If MS would have put the right product first without the mini starter 7 it would have been much better. And while I am saying the tough things there is the little bothersome piece about weight of computer...the weight as advertized is WITHOUT BATTERY. Just so you know when you are buying one you have to consider the extra roughly one pound addition to the carrying weight. But the bottom line is I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY ASUS NETBOOK 1005 PE MU17. The fun in going to Barnes and Noble, or Wegmann's and using my netbook is GREAT. Thanks Amazon.

I thought that an additional monitor can compensate for the Netbook's small monitor. After my Eee 1005PE arrived, I plugged an monitor into Eee 1005PE and then I saw my Netbook screen duplicated onto the monitor. I wanted an extended desktop, so for the next 30 minutes I went through Control Panel trying to find the option. At last, the truth struck me: Microsoft disabled the option.
Window 7 Starter restricts user from
a) extended desktop, which would greatly enhance the utility of a Netbook, when you have a large-screen monitor and if you plan to work for an extended period of time at one location.
b) Changing desktop picture: This means Microsoft does not you to have a picture of your puppy or new-born baby on your desktop.
I agree Eel is a powerful device. However, I give one star, because Microsoft uses Windows 7 Starter to systematically limit the power of Netbook. Ofcourse, we can purchase Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for just $106.54 from amazon.com. My question is why doesn't Microsoft offer this option from the beginning instead of scamming us into buying the upgrade? Everyone hates scammers.
My advice to everyone. Buy Netbooks with Windows XP while you can. It is a real pain trying to "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows XP.
