I rely on consumer reviews to make my purchases and I thought it was time to return the favor. I own several ASUS eee Netbooks, and was disappointed with the Windows 7 one I recently purchased. Contrary to what I had read in Windows 7 reviews, it's much more resource-intensive than XP. The UL-20, with its dual core processor and dedicated graphics card has no trouble handling 7's Aero scheme, starts programs rapidly and takes on multi-tasking without a hitch. The LED screen displays your work in vibrant colors, and generally, the positives mentioned in other reviews are true - except for battery life. If you use a battery-optimized power scheme to watch movies on the plane, you might get 5 hours out of your laptop, but this takes a toll on performance. While frames won't necessarily skip, you may notice annoying color artifacts. With a more performance-oriented power scheme, battery life is reduced to 3.5 hours. There may be a way to improve this by experimenting with the scheme, but in any case, 7.5 hours is what you get on extreme power-saving. That will allow office applications to run, but it won't make for smooth, enjoyable video. Still, the UL-20 is an exceptional laptop for the money, and while it doesn't meet all of a "road warrior's" needs, it comes close. Kudos to Asus.

I bought my ASUS UL20A-A1 four months ago. I use it exclusively as a lightweight portable, and it performs beautifully. Battery life has been very good - probably 5-6 hours/charge. It is small, light, and powerful. I wanted a unit I could use for presentations, WiFi email access, and photoprocessing; so, I wanted a lot more than a weak netbook; and this unit is perfect. The Intel 7300 processor with 64-bit Windows 7 is more than up to the task - and I can add another 2 gigs in the future if I need it. The bright LED display more than makes up for the 12" screen size. Only complaint is that ASUS is very light on documentation; so, you might want more guidance if this is your first computer. I've never needed any support; so, I can't comment on support quality.ASUS UL20A-A1 Thin and Light 12.1-Inch Silver Laptop - 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)

I use this laptop for work and it is light, has a long battery life and is pretty damn speedy. For the price, it is unbeatable, I have had many laptops in this size (all of them more expensive), and I can honestly say that I have no need to upgrade any feature. For work stuff; fast, light, long battery. For gaming; i have no idea.

The ASUS UL20A may not have the most memorable name, but it's definitely the best ultra-portable notebook on the market today. This is coming from someone who owns a unibody MacBook Pro. The UL20A mixes exceptional build quality with a best-in-class chiclet keyboard and battery-saving Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor. It's rated for 7.5 hours, but I routinely get around 5 while surfing the web and listening to music. Windows 7 is a beautiful operating system, and the 12.1" glossy display really complements the gorgeous glass-inspired Aero GUI. After purchasing this notebook, I immediately popped in an extra 2GB RAM module. With that tiny addition, this thing really screams. This notebook is also well-suited to light gaming. I regularly play Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Day Of Defeat: Source on high settings without any problem. It won't play Crysis, but it should play most games that are a few years old. All in all, the UL20A is an excellent value and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in the market for an ultra-portable notebook.

so far so good ........ does everything it claims ..........LOVE the quick trip to the internet option! LOVE the size!!! My only gripe if any, and why I didn't give it 5 stars, is the slower mouse, but it's not a big deal.
