I have been searching for a netbook for about one month and I stumbled upon this model. I must say that I really like it alot. The battery life and wifi is exceptional and when I use skype I can see clearly and the other party can see me clear as well. The only negative for me not having the bluetooth feature but it is minor because I bought one on ebay for about US3.00. Windows 7 works very well and I have installed Roxio 2010 with no problems. I already have an external drive so I am downloading stuff and burning them for my personal use. I even have Kindle on it. I love this little gadget- the price was right (Amazon had it on sale) the storage is great (250) and I can take it anywhere with me without anyone having to know that I have a netbook in my purse.

Hello, I brought this computer about a week before and I received it yesterday. I find that when I run some programs, the computer is very noisy(sounds like a rat). I think maybe there are something wrong with the fan. Is that normal? If not, could you exchange a new one for me? I will go to China this May so I don't think it's a good choice to send it back and fix it. By the way, if I can change my computer, I want an extra 2GB memory cards in it and I will pay for it. But how much should I pay?
Thank you so much.
Waiting for your response.

I bought this netbook in November, upgraded the memory to 2 gigs and upgraded the OS to Win 7 Home Premium. I've been generally happy with the performance of the machine, the battery life and its ability to display downloaded movies from Amazon Unbox. My big issue is that I have had intermittent charging problems. I can't tell if the problem is the adapter or the system board. The adapter gets very hot at the tip, and the laptop gets very hot in the area where the adapter connects. I'm talking burn your finger hot. And sometimes the AC adapter just won't charge the thing at all. Keep trying, a few days later it will mysteriously work. So I called Asus technical support and went through the troubleshooting with them. All their suggestions didn't do anything; then while the analyst had me on hold to get an RMA number, it started to work again. Very, very strange problem. Anyways, the netbook is on its way back to Asus (at MY expense). I hope they can resolve the problem as I love traveling with a netbook. I have read many reviews which leads me to believe mine is NOT an isolated incident.
I also have an Acer Aspire One netbook that I had bought for my mom. It works just fine and the way the adapter plugs in seems to be better than the Asus. I like the netbook solution, especially for traveling light on a plane or in the car.

I had a Dell fullscale (14.1" screen or however big it was) PC and it was starting to shut down over and over for no reason. The bottom would get VERY warm and I just thought it was because it was sitting on my lap and not venting properly to cool the system. I took it in for tech support and they told me the same thing but it never seemed to do it. I finally got tired of it and looked into a few options. I'm not a gamer and just really need it for internet, some mild word processing, and email but didn't want to pay a fortune. I opted to take a chance on a netbook (with my dying laptop as a back-up just in case it didn't work out) and after a lot of research Asus won out.
When I first got it home, yes, the start-up seemed to take forever but I had read that as a complaint and knew to expect it. Then when I turned it on it felt slower than what I expected, however, as I had read reviews I knew that perhaps the upgrade to a 2GB RAM would make it faster. At this point, the computer needed to restart and began downloading about 30+ Windows uploads. WHen it restarted, it actually did run faster and that problem was mitigated. I opted to go for the OCZ Technology OCZ2MV6672G 2GB Notebook Memory and installed it with no problems. I booted it up and this sucker flies now.
Yes the keyboard is small but it's workable and I like the bumps on the touchpad as well. Windows 7 Starter is a little bit of a bitch but I will get the upgrade with my next paycheck so that's really a non-issue for me.
Battery life - hell the bleep yes! I ran the battery down entirely (just left it up and running) and then did a full recharge. I set every power setting and screen brightness setting on it's lowest level and the battery icon said I had over 8 hours of battery life. Even with it on it's highest settings I had about 6 which still isn't bad. When I tried using my laptop on a cross country flight, it died after less than 4 hours.
In terms of surfing the web, yes, some sites do not go to full screen and some don't resize in the smaller window. However, that's minor. If you're a huge gamer, I can't make a recommendation either way as I'm not one. There's no CD or DVD drive but that's minor in the grand scheme of things to me...the same as the fingerprint issue. It's a laptop, you're supposed to use it LOL
This is the perfect laptop/netbook for those of us that just need to surf the web, do email, facebook, etc. If you need more to do graphics, major gaming that may need more memory or better graphics, etc, then this may not be for you.
Oh and for those that graded this low because of a bad customer service experience, I disregarded your reviews and encourage others to do as well. No customer service is perfect, but I care more about how well it works and the experience you have with the product versus the fact that someone wasn't nice to you on the phone or you think you're entitled to something free after the warranty expires. You're entitled to your opinion but it does a disservice to what a great netbook this really is...love it!
