"Pretty good case but not OEM Sony....Aftermarket" 2009-04-25
By Ryan Hanan (Oakland, CA USA)
The ad made this sound as if this product was specifically made for the Sony portable DVD player DVP-FX820. It is not. It does fit the Sony model well but it is not made by Sony and is not made of Sony quality. Getting ALL of the accessories into the case for travel is hard. Needs to be slightly larger. Well padded and protects the DVD player well. Works great as a stand alone case.

 "Almost perfect" 2009-04-18
By KRyan (Seattle, WA)
Well built; good protection. Fits the 8" sony DVD (FX820) player perfectly. The main compartment is not too big, nor small. The side pocket holds all the accessories, barely. With all the accessories carefully shoved into it, the side pocket is bulging. If it had a slightly bigger side compartment it would be perfect (5 stars) because it's really very nice and not oversized like some cases I looked at. Definitely recommended.

By A. Di Bello (USA, HI)
Wonderful product. Fit perfect for my DVD PLAYER.

The pouch help a lot to prevent scratches and hit.

The only thing, is you cannot carry the charger due to it is slim. So if you are looking to carry every component from your DVD, don't go with that.

This is fantastic to take with you in airplane or for your kid everywhere.

"Fits the 8 inch plus battery! Great!" 2009-02-26
By Coleen Forward (LA, CA)
This case is perfect for the 8 inch Sony portable DVD player. I was concerned that the battery would not fit in the case - but it does. The other pocket fits headphones, dvd's, and the remote control. Someone at my office commented that it looks like a day planner. Very sleek. I'm glad I paid a little extra and got this quality.

I thought this would be such a great product for my daughter....loved the package idea. The player stopped working after about 15 uses....over a one month period.

I then spent a little more on a Sony player and LOVE IT....no problems. Don't waist your time and money on this cheap product.

I was so excited to get this dvd player. I got it as a Father's Day Gift for my husband who works out of town alot and for our vacation this summer. It worked wonderfully and I was pleasantly surprised when it came with 2 headphone and a remote control. I didn't see that it came with them on the description so it was even better. Thank you so much the service was great and delivery was speedy. I will definitely buy from this one again

 "Perfect for kids" 2009-06-01
By M. Armstrong (Williamsburg, VA)
This is a great value for the money. I shopped around to find a DVD player for use on long trips by my 5 year old. The display is sufficiently crisp for her and that's all I ask. The controls are simple and the unit has controls right on it as opposed to some that are only controlled by a remote. (When your 5 yr old loses the remote, you're sunk!) Some units only play in wide screen which distorts older DVDs, this one gives you options. Audiovox also includes a carrying case which converts to an over-the-seat holder for backseat viewing (much more secure than having the child perch the DVD player on their lap or tray table). Also nice that they include 2 headphones so the unit can be shared with a sibling or friend. I can't yet speak to the player's longevity or durability, but it seems sturdy enough. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase.

I purchased this item for my 4 year old grandchild. It was a great value and very easy to use. She uses all by herself. It has a better quality sound than other players I had purchased in the past and an excellent size screen. I would recommend this product to everyone. It also comes with everything you need in a perfect little case.

Not a good product! We could never get the battery to work from the start but decided to live with it as we were always going to be plugging it in. We should have taken that as a sign because less than five months later we can't get the unit to turn on at all. Of course now it is too late to return it, so I guess it's garbage.

 "Works Well" 2009-06-22

Works as expected. I use it for my kids to watch iPod videos. The picture could be clearer, but that is more a function of the iPod... Have not tried the DVD player yet, or any other inputs. I have thought of buying a second one, but I would need to buy another Generation 5 iPod Video (anything later, ie. 80GB iPod Video (Generation 5.5 ??) will not play video on this unit)....

"Great player, great value, but beware: it's fragile!!!!" 2009-04-28
By DH (ND, USA)
We purchased this DVD player for the kids to use during the extensive traveling that we tend to do. It worked really great at first: decent enough quality viewing, good compatibility with our old iPod, the DVD tolerated lots of bumps on the road without skipping, etc, etc. However, it is sort of a low-quality build overall. The hinge on the cheap plastic cover that closes on the DVD itself inevitably snapped off at the hands of our toddlers after just 3 months of use. The DVDs will not play if it senses that the lid is open: we can't figure out how to over-ride it and trick it into thinking it's closed, so it's now use-less. When calling Audiovox to fix this cheap little lid the cost to fix was quoted at $99 plus one-way shipping. Clearly not worth sending in, so now we have to buy another one. Lesson learned: overall, this is not a tough and sturdy player for use by children! Adults only, and gentle at that! But if you aren't a rough and frequent traveler, it would have otherwise been great!

I would like to add to the review i previously wrote, about a month later we are not able to get this DVD player to work at all. We have only had it about 6 months and it is dead. DO not buy this DVD player.

We got this DVD play for my daughter to use in the car. It worked fine for a week or two, but then the battery just quit, so now we have to use it plugged in or it will not turn on. Also sometimes the screen gets gray lines through it and I have to turn it off and on until they are gone. I wanted to get one with the ipod dock and this was the least pricey. Now I'm wishing we spent more and got a better one. The dvd player over all is flimsy, the picture is good When it's working.

 "Works Great!" 2008-10-05
By K. R. Cruise
We bought this DVD player for a long car trip (over 1000 miles) with the hope it would distract our 2 1/2 year old. I was concerned about volume issues that I had read about in previous reviews, so we took little speakers to attach to it. It was a wonderful surprise that we didn't need the speakers at all. Even with all the car noise, which is considerable with the air conditioner and the engine noise associated with pulling a travel trailer, it was very easy to hear the videos. Our son loved watching his movies and allowed us to travel with relative quiet and to cover more miles per day.

This is a great player it never skipped even on the roughest roads and was easy to use.

This player is a good DVD player for the money. We use it on long trips so our daughter can watch movies. I have also used it personally. I bought it because I had an iPod but found it does not work with the 5th

generation iPod. The picture is black and white. I was not too concerned about it because I don't rent or buy a lot of movies from iTunes. Because of the problems I had with the iPod I rated the product with 4 stars instead of 5.

"Its worked great for presentations" 2009-09-18
By J. Kawakami
We've been using this as a video or audio source for presentations (showing short videos) and short live events (rallies). It's worked very well. I'll start with negative aspects, then positive ones.

Negatives: The battery has lasted only a year before its lifespan has decreased drastically. This is not a problem for us, because we always have mains power available.

The screen is hard to see in sunlight. It looks OK in the shade, so we have to bring something to shade the unit outdoors. It would be fantastic if this device had an outdoor-sunlight mode.

There is no fast-forward for audio, at least not on the controls on the console. If I were using this unit for audio that required cueing up music, this wouldn't work.

Positives: Very good sound, superior to many portable audio devices. It has a full, rich bass. The on-screen volume control works better than an analog dial because it's less likely to be jostled accidentally.

Decent video with lots of contrast. I've seen better (like the video out from a Mac), but for short presentations, it doesn't matter.

It doesn't use a combined "camcorder" style A/V plug. It has one output for video, and one for audio (the headphone out). This makes it a LOT easier to interconnect this device with external amplifiers and projectors, because these two devices are often in completely different locations, in opposite directions from the player. Also, if a cable breaks, it's a lot easier to make a quick fix when the audio and video are on separate plugs, and the plugs are totally generic, as they are with this unit. This feature is a must-have for our purposes.

It has a digital audio out, which would potentially be an awesome feature, if our equipment had digital audio in or an external DAC. One problem we suffer is impedance mismatch - our projector causes our amp to hum. If we had a digital-to-audio device that interconnected via the optical output, we'd be able to separate the video electronics from the amp, and have totally clean sound. For our purposes, this isn't necessary, but, in more critical projection situations, this is a useful feature.

The controls are simple, and right beneath the screen. There's enough space between them so you aren't likely to press the wrong button. You can put tape over the controls you don't want to touch, and labels over the ones you want to see more clearly. If you're into putting tape on your device, this allows it.

The software is okay. It took a while to learn how to get the system back to "start", and how to cue a DVD or CD, but, once you know, it's predictable. The pause and play are responsive and nearly instantaneous for both DVD and CD. The "screen saver" visual is pleasant (it's an abstract blue image, not a big Sony logo). For presentations, these features put this unit ahead of others.

The unit seems to be sturdy. We've hauled it around to many locations, and it still hasn't broken.

Overall, it's not perfect, but I still give it 5 stars.

"Be Careful with Sony's Poor Quality and Very Limited Warranty" 2009-09-17
By D. Yin (Baltimore, MD)
Be VERY careful when you consider this product!!!

I bought a this Sony product less than six months ago.

During the past six months, I probably played with it for less than 20 times, if not less than 10 times.

A few weeks ago, it started to have problem: When a movie is played, the sound can be heard, but the picture is not shown on the screen.

I checked the warranty and found it only covers only 90 days on parts and 1 year on labor!

I contacted Sony support and its customer relationship department. The company kept talking about the warranty terms.

Indeed, it was my fault that I didn't pay much attention to Sony's warranty terms when I bought it, and I thought a Sony product (or any brand) would last at least a year or two. DVD and its related technologies are quite mature today.

Unfortunately, this Sony product doesn't last at all. With the price for a new one, I almost end up with a refurbished product even if I go through all the trouble of sending it to Sony and getting it fixed.

Be VERY careful when you choose a Sony product these days!

The picture is great. The battery does not seem to last as long as advertised, but watching one dvd at a time, the battery has never died while I was using the player.

I bought it so I could watch movies at night in the summer and not have to stay in the house on warm sumer nights. I sit outside at night on my glider/swing and watch movies. It has been just what I wanted.

I'd say, its a good buy.

Great picture, and the swivel screen is great for the added visual positioning. It was easy for my 5 year old to understand. Then, after less then 15 hours of playing time, the screen failed-no picture at all (of course too much time had elapsed for me to be able to return it...). Everything else worked fine, but without the picture, all you have is a mediocre CD player.

I use this product for my daughter while she is in the car or on a plane. Great quality, no problems! Worth every dime.

"Been using this for about 4 months- very happy with it" 2009-09-08
By E. Matz
I bought the Sony fx820 in May 2009. I waited to write a review until I had used it for a while. I have been pleased. The sound is not a problem to me, with or without headphones.

"Great Sound, Picture, But Screen Died Quickly." 2009-08-26
By A. Haverty
This DVD player has great sound-nice and crystal clear with volume levels the range from very quiet, to loud enough to hear in the car without earphones.

Save your money if you don't want to use the ear phone. The speakers on this fancy little portable dvd player are so poor that you can barely hear what is being played. I gave it 3 stars because I do love all the other neat features but if I had to do it again, I would not buy this.

"Arrived deffective -- sent it back. So far no refund and had to pay postage. Not happy" 2009-04-15
By AMS
The cable arrived deffective. It was a very cumbersome porcess to send it back. I had to pay for shipping. I believe that my credit shoould include shipping both ways. The company says they don't refund shipping at all, either way. I have asked for a refund of the shipping, but havn't heard yet. Meantime, there has been no refund at all. I'm not happy with the customer service at all. The whole thing has been a rediculous red tape nightmare.

"Worked great until it died" 2009-03-31
By NBO (Haslett, MI USA)
I really enjoyed this unit. For a portable, the picture quality was reasonable. I always used headphones without complaint. About 1 year after buying it (and taking very good care of it), it would start to freeze. It always happens about 30-40 min after starting so I think it something overheating. Nevertheless, it won't last long enought to get through even a short movie. Not typical Sony quality. Very dissappointing.

 "Great DVD player" 2008-10-15
By Andy Z (Atlanta, GA USA)
I love the size of the unit and the fact that I get over 6 hours of active use with the battery -- great for those long flight to Europe. I have had mine for over 6 months and it works like a charm. One of the best units on the market.

I bought this for my daughter, and she loves it. She would rather watch DVDs instead of tv now! It has a beautiful picture and clear sound. It's her most favorite birthday present, ever!
