I was looking for a bridge with good reviews, found this one and it also found to be the cheapest!. I was worried about the range of the operation, but I am glad I bought it. It works perfect in about 25 feet range, I am using for video streaming, have not seen any issue in last 3 months!. Once setup is complete, this will work with any devide with ethernet jack, I highly recommend this.

Before buying, I read the reviews on the documentation for this product and they are correct. Not good and hard to understand, but since I'm kind of a techie thought I could figure it out.



The access point does work, and is the easiest to setup, but not why I bought it. I want to extend my home wifi to fill in weak signal gaps in my house.



The repeater part is half working as it does see my router and connects to it. My Windows 7 laptop and Macpro laptop connect to the device, but will not allow data(webpages) to come across. Windows shows me the connection, but this device is seen as unknown. I'm going to send an email to support for help.



I have an Nokia N810 internet tablet, Linux, and it works with the device, but I have to change connections(an option) on the tablet from my router name to the same name.(the difference is that it auto-connects to a lower signal(the real router) and I connect to the name with the higher signal strenght) But when the ASUS is turned on, it then knocks out the connections for my laptops. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.



I'm wondering if I should have gotten the D-link model instead.

I bought this for my Samsung Blu-ray disc player to take advantage of the Netflix streaming and other internet content. Stores were out of the adaptor for the Samsung and I ran across the Asus. Worked perfectly! No interruptions or freezing during streaming!! My player is not far from the router (~20 ft). Connecting the Asus was not clear though. You have to connect the Asus to your computer first, then access the web configuration page to change the mode to "Ethernet Adaptor". Enter your information and it's done. After that it worked flawlessly for me.

There are four modes this WAP (I needed something simple and effective as a repeater only). This took me about 10 minutes total to setup. It has worked flawlessly for about 10 days and there are no dead zones in my place now (woohoo!). I used this with a Dlink 802.n gaming router. For those needed WAP/Bridge, etc, this likely will work also, but I have not used it for that purpose. I would recommend this product without reservation as a repeater.

As in J. Setyo's review for this same product, I have a Blu-Ray player (in this case a Samsung BD-P2500) that can stream movies and TV directly from Netflix, but only with an ethernet (aka "wired") connection.



This $50 device is the least expensive and easiest solution. Otherwise, I'm faced with having to run ethernet through the walls to an inconvenient location (not sure if that's even possible), or upgrade to a more expensive Blu-Ray player like the BD-P3600. (And at least one AV forum claims the upconversion chip in the BD-P2500 is better than the one in the BD-P3600; google "Samsung BD-P1650, BD-P2500 or BD-P3600?")



Device Setup

It took me about 15-30 minutes to set it up with my wireless LAN using a laptop; I wasn't rushing. You plug it into a laptop's ethernet jack, and power the device with a USB port, or plug (all cables are included). Setup is just like configuring any other wireless device to connect to your wireless router, so if you have a wireless network at home, you'll be able to handle this.



This device has a web-based configuration much like most home wireless routers; you use a web-browser to configure it. Sidenote: I would highly recommend that you not use WEP encryption, even if it does work (see other review). It's generally regarded as not being secure.



Usage and Performance

I was able to plug it into the Blu-Ray player and it works fine. I was able to stream a High Definition movie from Netflix successfully.



Other Uses

In case it's not obvious, you can use this ASUS device for other purposes as well (thus the 4-in-1 reference). It "can" be used as a home wireless network, connecting it to your cable modem. It can be used as a "repeater" to extend an existing wireless router's range in your house. And if you have a computer that doesn't have a wireless card built in but do have an ethernet jack, this can be used to provide wireless connectivity for that computer.

I received this in 2 separate shipments. The first was the wireless and it came USPS, The second was the unit. This was shipped via fedex to the local USPS and they delivered it to me. All came as expected.

I set this up on my TV in the bedroom. I have a PS3 on the bigger TV and use a DNLA/UpNp server I set up to stream movies from my computer. My wife can watch one movie on one TV and I can watch a different on on the other. It plays the .mpg files I have saved on the server. I am using the Play Station Media server to stream the Media. I have used it to play Internet music and Internet TV sites on the BriteView. It seems to work well. Setup was easy!

I can not seem to get it to work with my Pictures yet, but then again I have not played with that part yet. I am sure I am missing a simple setting.



The picture Quality is great, cant complain. When scrolling threw the movies it can be a little slow but the new firmware made this a bit quicker. Shut off the preview will make this even faster. It takes about 3 seconds to load the movie and start playing it over the wireless connection.

The remote had lots of functions, but I programed my harmony one and it works great.

I did lots of research on this before purchase and I have to say it was money well spent!

This is a great little economical box for playing just about every type of video file there is. It also has the torrent feature for added versatility. I can view movies from my external hard drive or from any computer on the network. (There are 5 computers on my network.) I can stream online movies, TV programs, etc., using PlayOn. However, when using PlayOn, I had connectivity issues in one of my rooms:I could connect to my network but the speed was too slow for streaming. This clearly indicates environmental interference; however, I have 2 wireless Blu-Ray players, a laptop, and a netbook, which all connect and function well in the very same room. After trying several things to connect from that room without success, I ended up purchasing used Netgear powerline adapters for a hard wired connection and the problem was solved. The wireless feature is still valid for the other rooms in my home. Overall, I am pleased with this player's abilities, especially considering the affordable price. It can add much more to your home entertainment experience.

I've been happy with two of this CT, one in bedroom, another in family room, both plugged into BV Powerline Adapters. In this setup the CT can stream everything EXCEPT for blue-ray movies, which I put in an HD and plug right into the back of the CT. Wireless is stil not as reliable and fast as wired network.

This is one nice mouse, despite it's small size. It simply works well on all surfaces I've tried and even with my large hands. I'll nitpick it for one minor design flaw. For ease of removal from its storage slot in the mouse, the USB stub needs to be stored one way only. Flip it around and the grove that makes for easy removal of the stub is on the wrong side. Bottom line, though, if I lost this little guy today, I'd immediately buy another.

Mouse was Dead on arrival. No help from Kensingtons website. It looks like there is a little reset button on the inside to resync it, but no way to know how to use it. the "instructions" were on a piece of about 1.5" x 2" paper and effectively communicated the fact that the scroll wheel will glow red when the batteries are running out. (and nothing else) All in all, this mouse is a complete waste of time, i should have heeded my instincts and purchased a logitech nano. I already have two for work and i am quite happy with them) rather than purchasing this one in an attempt to save a few bucks. I cannot comment on how it performs (as it didn't) but i can say that the plastics seem significantly cheaper than the microsoft mice or the Logitech mice.

I bought this about 4 months ago and was happy with the compact size for use with a netbook. Still the same batteries in use too.

Seems pretty sturdy and well made. But the battery compartment is TIGHT! It's a slide and snap like most of them and mine is a little hard to open.



Also, the mouse is small, so you have to be happy with that. My hands are probably average, but if you have big hands and fingers, you might find it a bit harder to use.



Truly plug and play, no software to load or fool with, but no battery meter either.



The best part is the nano receiver. So nice to not have to bump some stick protruding from the side of your netbook or laptop.



Very happy with the purchase.

Excellent product, just as promised, works great, haven't found video formats that doesn't play, the image quality is great, at last I can watch my HD movies and clips, the only thing is that indeed the remote control is sometimes unresponsive when playing media, specially HD media, but I guess that is kind of normal I mean even a good computer ( lots of RAM, Processor speed, etc)shows some delay when watching HD media and try to configure something. I bought also a Wireless N router to connect it to my NAS and 720p streams smoothly to about 100ft including walls and height level but I guess that the router does its part xD.

I have this unit for about 2 months, I got it for just over one hundred dollars. There really are no other products at this price range with the feature set. It has built in wireless N, which may not be that great for HD but my divx and DVD.iso play just fine even with others on the network. It has a card reader that allows you to transfer files over the network to your computer or WHS.

It will play nearly all format files - the biggest exclusion though in my opinion for a HD player is the lack of .wtv / .dvr-ms which would be wonderful if it could (these are the file types stored by windows for TV from a capture card though WMC). It does play my HD camcorder video great but occasionally stutters over wireless (especially G) but great when on the wired ethernet.

The picture quality is fantastic over HDMI and not too bad on the composite output to an old Sony CRT TV (although the menu aspect is a little off on that TV).

Physcially the unit is heavier than expected, a little larger than I thought it would be. I would say 3+/5 on the build (one of my LED lights is off axis). The unit runs warm.

In recent firmware updates they have added online content / weather and picasa/flickr access although I really don't use those (Hulu, youtube or Netflix access would be much more useful).

I have been a user of these media streamers and extender for a while now and have been through my fair share of different units. Many have been under powered in terms of processing power (such as some of the units from Netgear and DLink) and the would freeze often. My main stay till now has been the PS3 which plays limited number of formats but it does it well since it is way overpowered for this particular function - it eats up a lot of power and at my home is practically on 24/7 between the kids and I for watching movies etc. This unit is less than 10W (which I understand is ~5% of the power for the PS3). It plays way more formats.

Lastly a slight con is the remote response when in wireless more - it is slower (I don't know why but can be annoying). In wired mode there is no problem.



Lastly my wife can use this and was happy once shown how to navigate the device, big plus for me!

Overall, for the price / feature set it's a great buy, I think most people will be happy with it.

4+/5 overall, recommend it for sure.



(I actually also bought the wired version too for about eighty five dollars for another room since I was very happy with this unit overall - but did not need a wireless unit).

Purchased this about a week ago and so far so good. I recently decovered that when trying to connect to network (windows 7) it can't recognize it. Has something to do with the new security feature of window 7. There is a firmware update coming soon, and should fix the problem and well as ton of new features, which im looking forward to seeing and using.

Out the box it was pleased, took one of my external hard drives with a ton of divxs and mkv moves on there and played them extremely well, with no hick-up definitely was pleased with that. As far as custumer service goes... I havent a clue for I havent given them a ring or emailed.

Overall... Definitely a great buy and its a ez hook up!

I was really excited to set up the O Play; unfortunately, halfway through the initial setup, the unit stopped responding to the remote control. I tested the batteries in the remote - they were ok - but replaced them anyway - didn't fix the problem. I unplugged the unit, let it sit, then replugged it in. No benefit. Did this several times without any benefit. Had to send the unit back.



I am not really reviewing the box, since I never got it to work; I am just saying - try setting it up early after you get it, and be prepared for disappointment. Thank God for Amazon's return policy.

 

 "It worked fine, but not as well as expected." 2010-03-17

I used this for 3 weeks and decided to return the unit and wait for a next-generation product coming out. There are very nice things about this unit, but on the other hand, there are more troubles that we are willing to take. Here is my opinion.



Pros:

1. Takes all formats! - So far I haven't seen any format of video or graphics format that it can't take. I especially like the ISO and RMVB support that its competitors fall short. I have all my DVD collection converted to ISO format, and it has no problem playing any of them!

2. Beautiful graphics - The graphics is better than my home theater PC! Color is vivid and motion is fluid. It plays as well as my blu-ray player in 1080p format.

3. Wireless-N Network - Different from other people, I have absolutely no problem with the N wireless network. It seems my NAS right away. After I set up the permission on my Windows 7, it has no problem seeing my share directories and playing from them without any issue. Actually, I think it even plays better than locally connected drives, at least it won't crash in the middle of play (see below.)



Cons:

1. Crashes - that's the main reason we return the unit. It crashed more than 10 times in the past three weeks, and we have to unplug it every time to recover. It doesn't have to be a network issue. We have experienced crashed in the middle of movies.

2. Remotes - Quite often the unit were not responsive for any remote click, mostly lasting 30 seconds or 1 minute. If it is a Linux-based OS, then I cannot understand what can tie down the unit, and it's surely bothering. Also, there are not enough buttons on the remote to control every function. I often has problem getting to the title screen on my DVD. While it's nice to have a DVD subtitle button, it will take at least six clicks to get - while most DVD players can do with a single click.

3. Endless menu- After a beautiful initial screen, all the remaining screens are simply boxes with filenames in it to choose from. While this is a good way to choose files, it's annoying to keep paging down to search for the files I want, especially when pre-view slowed down the search. I have already organized my share drives as much as possible and still feel bothered. If only we can customize the menu by adding shortcuts to the very beginning two screen, it would make it much easier. But now we have to click MOVIE -> DEVICE -> LOCAL STORAGE -> C Drive -> and then subdirectories. It would be much better if it is MOVIE -> C Drive. Please, make it more friendly on next upgrade.

4. Drives disappearing - Network drives disconnected itself, or took a few tries to sign in. Even our local USB storage disappeared once for absolutely no reason - will have to unplug to get it back.

5. Internet TV - Good features to have, but most channels not useable, some will hang your unit. I've stopped using it after the first day.



I will look for their next upgrade. If it fixes these issues, I will no doubt repurchase this. Otherwise, I will pray WD TV supporting those additional formats, or something else comes up soon. For now, I'll have to go back to my HTPC - thought I found a replacement, well, I didn't.
