Great, Great drive! Light, portable and very fast! Fits into my desk drawer! The Nero software (the new version) is little confusing, but nothing that can't be managed. Definitely recommend it!

Makes a good companion for my Acer netbook. Good speed - burned DVD's faster than the DVD burner in my desktop which is supposed to be faster. Comes with AC adaptor only, but can be powered off USB with a Sony PSP USB cable (use USB data cable that comes with drive for data, and the PSP cable just for power). I have used it this way on just battery power and it works, but of course, the battery runs down quicker than usual. All in all, very happy with this drive.

Like some of the other reviewers, I feel the fact this drive comes with an external power supply is a plus. The advantage is that, if you are on USB power alone your computer may not power it up and recognize it early enough in the boot process for it to work as a boot device. This drive installed on an Asus Eee PC 1000HA without further software. It worked fine as a first boot device to install the setup software for the Asus on a new hard drive.
The power supply itself is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and very lightweight. Watching DVDs is a breeze and the Sony DRXS70U/R is quick on recording and backups. I would like to know more from someone like B. Wang about how the PSP cable works. I ordered a PSP USB cable from Amazon and the one I received comes with a regular USB tip, mini USB, and a power tip. My question is, if I should plug both the mini USB and power tip into the DVD drive at the same time, or just the power tip. Any comments are appreciated.

The USB2 port on my laptop cannot power an external drive so this was perfect, having an external power supply. It's built solid and performs very well. Nice feel to it, works similar to a laptop style drive. It's slim and rugged, but will add a small amount of weight to your laptop case to lug around. As usual, I do not install any of the included software but use the freeware Image Burn program instead - it works when Nero 6 failed. Switching from XP to OSX, the drive is quite fast on a mac and does not need any special software or drivers. Of all the external DVD burners I looked at, this was the best built and supported the largest range of formats. Having had many poor experiences with TigerDirect, I suggest to use a quality retailer when placing your order.

i have an iMac and found that the vertical CD drive would frequently kick out disks that i tried to copy/burn. once i had this external i've never had a problem. love it.
