Electronic Arts guarantees a happy Halloween for survival horror fans with the release of this terrifying, deeply personal thriller. Developed as a single-player game, Dead Space delivers the chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment -- all the while being stalked by some truly horrific enemies!

Set in the far future, Earth's appetite for natural resources has become a major motivator for deep space exploration. Immense, privately-owned and operated mining ships called "planetcrackers" orbit planets and use sophisticated equipment to carve out entire city-sized chunks of rock, reducing them to component elements and raw ore. When communications go dead on-board the USG Ishimura, a famous planetcracker -- systems engineer Isaac Clarke -- is sent in to fix the problem. Once on-board the vessel, Isaac discovers that the crew has unearthed an ancient and malevolent alien presence far beneath the planet's surface and brought it on-board. Weaponless, alone and terrified, this lone engineer is burdened with much more than simple survival -- he must seal the alien horror back into the dark rock.

Hold Onto Your Butts5
I love when game designers do their homework--in this case watching horror movies and dissecting directorial decisions, and looking for ways to improve on the well-entrenched Resident Evil and Silent Hill games (not to ignore Condemned and the rest).

To state it simply--this game is scary in nearly all of the best ways. To express this point--my four-letter word use has quadrupled since I've started playing this game (yes, I haven't finished it yet, so don't ruin it for me!).

The first thing that hit me, like all good horror, was the exquisite sound effects. From a very 'real' sensation of being in the vacuum of space with muted, otherwordly emptiness, to the sound of creatures lurking behind you, or above you, or beside you, or jumping from a drain.

Second, is character introduction. Wait! Don't glaze over this yet. There's no exposition to let you know what's going on, which adds to the discomfort. In one case, I finished an area and walked into a hallway to see a mini swarm of little creepy thingies shuddering toward my avatar. I had no idea how to deal with these things...so I tried to stomp them. Only to get swarmed. Arms flailing. Rapidly slamming A on my controller. I die gruesomely. Another four-letter word to wake the neighbors.

Before I go any farther, read this line: Buy this game and be scared.

Not ruin-the-couch scared, but weak scream and crazy laughter after you find out you're trapped in a room without enough ammo so now you have to stasis and pummel creatures that don't go down easy scared.

There are definite faults with this game. The ability to know where you're going with the click of a button was hand holding, similar to the direction arrow in Bioshock. The other fault I've found so far is that there are a lot of fetch quests. In fact, the game starts with one. Come on, it's horror! Finding a tram key is not horrific. Granted, the howling animals waiting for you are, and who knows where they're hiding this time.

I've said enough. It's a great game that is scary and fun and I can't wait to play more.

Dead Space the Final Frontier5
Let me start off by saying, I didn't even know about this game until last Friday when I went into GameStop for another game. I saw a picture on the box and poster of it in the store. I asked the store clerk about the game. He went on and on about the E3 demo he saw. "It is freakin' crazy... You are in zero gravity bouncing around...Combo of Bioshock and Resident Evil....You can't kill all the creatures the same way..." and so on. It peaked my interest. Since I am huge survival horror game fan, I had to buy it.

The clerk was correct it is freakin' crazy. I really have enjoyed this game, Okay I am only on chapter 2. I have a ways to go before the game is complete. Just like all the other reviewers have stated: The game is a combo of Bioshock, Doom, Resident Evil, and Gears of War. All games I have enjoyed. Dead Space is bloody, scary at times, and unique.

Dead Space is fun. I even heard it is banned in some countries. The game isn't for young children though. So parents be warned if you buy this game for your nine year old child, you are saying yes to killing of babies...Undead mutant babies, but still their babies. I just don't think that is okay for an elementary aged child. For teens/adults I think it is a breath of fresh air. I just beat Silent Hill 5, and my bloodlust just couldn't wait for Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2.

My break down~

Story So far: 9/10- I enjoyed it so far.
Graphics: 10/10- It is amazingly detailed game.
Sound: 10/10- Creepy.
Game play: 9/10- Easy controls to learn. Weapons are cool.
Uniqueness: 8/10- It does include aspects of others games. But, what game doesn't?

I definitely recommend Dead Space if you enjoy action/ horror games. Just be careful those babies are wicked.

A must play5
WOW, Dead Space!!! Now I'm not usually into games but I had to play this one. Something about it caught my attention.

It's a fun, exciting, blood pumping, and scary game to play. I highly recommend this game for an adrenaline rush experience.

On last thing, I'm a woman and for a game to catch my attention like this one has....a must play!!
