"Loved this little guy, but the touch-screen developed a problem." 2010-04-06

By Wendell J. Kelsey (Chicago, IL United States)

This would be a five star review except the touch-screen developed a dead spot. It was wedge-shaped and ran most of the way across the narrower dimension. That is up-and-down direction if you are using it in normal netbook form. If I tried to draw a straight horizontal line across the screen with my stylus, the line would plunge down and back up at that one spot. Near the top on that same line, it was totally dead. This happened after using it for about three weeks with no problems. Amazon was kind enough to take it back as defective merchandise (which it was) since it was less than thirty days since I bought it. I never dropped it or spilled anything on it or anything like that. I'm hoping that it was just bad luck. I have purchased a lot of hardware from Asus in the past. Mostly motherboards and video cards. I have never had a problem. I still like Asus quite a lot. This was the first PC I have purchased from them.

I bought a t101mt to replace it. It has a more powerful processor and a little bit bigger screen (10.1"). If the screen on the new one goes out too, I will come back and change this review to say that Asus is using junk touch-screens. But I am thinking that is not the case. I think I just got a random unlucky one.

 "T91MT is a Touchy Subject..." 2010-04-05

By Robert D. Rush Jr. (Pennsyltucky)

Our subject, the ASUS T91MT, is a touch screen tablet P.C. oriented netbook. The platform sports some advanced hardware functionality that's hard to find at an affordable price and this device is no exception to the rule. This is an expensive netbook coming in at almost (...) and somewhat hard to justify the price. This system is more about market-specialization/niche than it is main-stream.

The bottom line:

A.) if you're comparing general cross-platform specifics you're in the wrong place.

B.) else you're looking for a netbook/small form factor P.C. with tablet style functionality for:

- a. minimal productivity gains

- b. a device to support extended PMP functionality

...then read on.

The ASUS software bundled with the T91MT is a take it or leave it scenario. The true vein of the utilities is simplified accessibility and presentation in an effort to make the device fun and easy to look at. You either want them or you don't.

The reports of the book being extremely slow are exaggerated. This netbook runs well and as it should for a 32bit device platform and boots quickly. This is not a 64Bit Gaming Laptop.

It does have shared video memory so it isn't going to break land speed records - be realistic. You aren't going to run the same video specifications on a netbook that you will run on a desktop. This is a case of operator logical error not system inadequacy. Your standard platform HD video formats are going to be too heavy for this system. This is NOT a media server/center this is a NETBOOK.

I ultimately use the book for minimal productivity and as a real universal eBook Reader with Kindle for P.C., Adobe Digital Editions, and several others as my book shelves are to be retired. The days of lugging around 1000 page documents are over. Makes sense now -- doesn't it.

It was and wasn't worth (...). All of the money that I would have spent on disparate device platforms would have exceeded (...) easily justifying the expenditure but, as a standalone device it leaves a bit to be desired.

Performance degradation is easily remedied with a couple of 3rd party applications:

1. Vasilios Instant Memory Cleaner (RAM manager),

2. Revo Un-installer (the free version works well and cleans),

3. Defraggler (advanced disk defragmenter)

4. TweakNow Power Pack 2009.

All are free and they all run on XP, Vista, and Win7 platform devices including laptops and desktops. I personally tested them on all three platforms in all three operating systems. These utilities seriously loosen up the performance bottleneck considerably on this little guy.

Take care and focus, if not on fun, then productivity.

 "Performs as listed" 2010-04-03

By D. Reid (Newark Ohio)

I bought this machine to use as the traveling document and note keeper for my wife's business. Everything has been great. The touch screen is enough user friendly that it didn't need a "getting used to period" that I've had with other machines. The adaptive written text to typed notes has been very helpful in keeping and sending notes without re-typing it all out. Windows 7 was a good step up. No regrets for paying a little more to get the new OS. Over all, pleased with the purchase and it's functionality.

 "touchscreen!" 2010-03-18

By R. alvarez (nor cal)

i am in love with this thing, the tablet function is very easy and useful i don't think ill even bother with the real keyboard, the rotating screen makes this a media tablet, no regrets here.

 "T91MT Laptop for Christmas" 2010-03-17

By K. Alexander (Bellaire, Texas)

I got this laptop for Christmas this year and the first impression I got from it was that it was fun and speedy. My mom got me the extra 2G. I downloaded itunes and microsoft word. My laptop had no more memory left. So then I just thought okay I will delete itunes because I don't need that to much. Then I put 30 pictures on and 5 documents and it had absolutly no more space. So the bottom line is if the only thing you want this laptop for is speedy internet get it. If you want it for memory don't. It is fun the first month with the touch screen and then you don't care about it and don't use it anymore. You also can't type the first week because the keyboard is so small!
