 "Coolest monitor ever, period" 2010-04-10

By M. Vaughn (Austin, TX)

---Full 1080 HD. Do not be fooled by these others monitors claiming 'high-def'

---Weighs 7 pounds, not 27, making it adjustable with the push of a finger

---The response time is 2ms...not 5ms(gamers will understand the magnificence of this wonderful feature)

---About as thick as my thumbnail

---$200 bucks....are...you...kidding....me......this monitor is well worth $300-350 when compared to all the old prehistoric garbage still being pushed out there for more money that it cost to buy this one.

---10 million to 1 dynamic ratio. People say, "Dynamic ratio is just a sales crutch," but I DARE you to find another monitor out there even remotely close. You wont because no one else has such technology out yet besides what is inside this monitor. If you do find something close, I bet it is at the very least 100-200 bucks more and only around 1 million to 1. 10 million to 1, enough said here.

---Perfect for watching Hulu and blu-ray with the ol' lady (you can watch from anywhere in the room)

---The touch-screen buttons work phenomenally and even better than the ones on my 3 grand 52" inch Samsung LCD television in my living room. People complaining about this feature probably still use rotary dialer phones.

---Doesn't look like a computer monitor, so when time to upgrade in 5 years, it will be great for the kitchen and no one will ever think "Well, that is ghetto, this guy just put his old computer monitor in his kitchen."

---The games I play, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Team Fortress 2, have never looked better. I actually did not know they could look this good, even when I had full settings on before. My 19" Dell monitor had 8ms and now this Asus FLIES at 2ms...are you kidding me?! TWO MS....this is as fast as my Razor(Deathadder) gaming mouse. Not only can I alt+tab lightning fast now, but there is no distortion in my game anymore after leaving a game minimized for a while. I knew I was getting an amazing monitor, but I had NO clue it would enhance my video card so much. I seriously feel like I upgraded to running dual video cards(cross-fire). Screw buying a new video card when you can kill two birds with one stone by getting this Asus monitor.

---The only cons to this monitor are in the lack of assembly direction. Although super easy to setup(almost instant), the directions leave out the fact that you have to pop-out a plastic piece from the back-side to screw in the single screw for the stand(no tools needed). Figuring this out took me about one minute extra but I can see how it might cause some serious confusion. The piece is not 'ripped out' but actually has pieces that pop in and out, if you save the piece you could pop it back in.

---------On a happy side note here, I was able to look at this square piece closely and truly examine the beauty of this monitor's paint job. From a distance(1-2 feet) it looks black but it actually has super fine blue sparkles glossed into the paint, which makes it worth about $500 dollars more than it cost. It is a beautiful piece of art.

---------On another happy side note, there are some complaints about the stand. I have no qualms about it whatsoever. It looks badass; my friends are like "that is badass." The screen starts much lower than my previous 19" Dell stand could even be pushed down to. I would estimate that the screen starts 2-3 inches from my desk...my center of vision could not be better placed. There is no 'wobbling' at all with this monitor and it never will. The tilting back a few degrees is a non-issue, trust me.

---The only other lacking direction is not actually due to the monitor but from a video card manufacturer, ATI/AMD. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 and after reading some reviews on NewEgg(more expensive) for this product, I found the solution. The monitor was showing a 1" black border around the display(only when set to full 1920×1080), and all I had to do was download the Catalyst Control Center from ATI/AMD website and set my 'Scaling Options' to 0% Overscan. Problem solved. Note: Other brand video cards do not have this issue.

---One last good thing, more-so for you, not me...you no longer have to read boring ass reviews on websites that make it hard to read reviews and strain your eye sockets, as this will be the last review you will need to read. I mean, do not take my word for it, read the other reviews on this lovely piece of art. But once you can't read reviews anymore, you will remember this review and be like, "That one guy on the internet was right, I should have stopped reading after seeing his review because I can't find anything as good as the Asus." Then you will get this monitor and see for yourself. Free shipping!

 "Excellent Monitor" 2010-04-08

By Doug (Montreal, Canada)

I have nothing but good things to say about this monitor. Great price, EASY setup (despite the useless instructions), elegant appearance, outstanding visual quality, responsiveness, ease of use, portability...and the list goes on. The blacks are incredibly rich on this screen. It is huge and has great resolution for work and media. Great shipping, packaging and delivery. Top notch, A1 monitor.

 "Very Pleased" 2010-04-01

By N. Tailleart

I am very happy with this monitor! I am using this as a secondary monitor to my Al-body macbook with a dvi-mini display port connection and had no problem setting it up. The assembly of the monitor was also very easy (the most time consuming part was taking the plastic wrapping off everything!). I am not a super technical person; I was looking for something that was a good value for around $200, and I have to say I think the display and resolution look great for the price and could not see a reason to spend more if this is what you get. I also really love the ring stand and that the display tilts back. It operates very similar to a notebook screen. I would definitely recommend this to friends and if I ever find the need to purchase a new screen would definitely consider getting something from this brand and a similar model again.

I would just add that I read a lot of a reviews before purchasing and you can find more of them at [...].

"Dead Pixels/Could Not Connect via HDMI" 2010-03-26

By MediaGuru

RESEARCH:

I spent nearly a month researching different brands and models of monitors, but ultimately made the decision to go with the ASUS ms238h. I am currently the owner of a HP w2408h that I use for business, so my review is loosely based on a comparison between the ms238h and the w2408h. When new, the HP was nearly $500 vs the more affordable price of $200 for the ASUS.

DISPLAY:

The ms238h is a super thin and lightweight monitor that provides a very crisp and brilliant display. Out of the box, the monitor is bright enough to knock your socks off! (On my HP, I have the brightness turned down to 0.) Once I learned how to navigate through the menu, I was able to adjust the brightness quite easily. This display also provides true HD (1920x1080). Videos/movies play well thanks to the fast response time. This monitor is great for viewing photos as well. Unlike the HP, the screen is not glossy, so reflections are minimized.

STAND:

The ring stand is a bit odd at first, but after a brief assembly, it sturdily supports the monitor. Tilting is very easy and I did not notice any slipping or shaking while the monitor was on my desk. Compared to my HP, the ms238h didn't shake or move at all! The HP always shakes a little.

BUTTONS:

The touch sensitive buttons on the front of the display could perform a little better, but they do work and you are able to navigate through the menu to adjust brightness, etc.

SPEAKERS:

There are no speakers for this monitor, but there is a HD audio output on the back of the monitor that you can use to hook-up external speakers.

INCLUDED:

Upon opening the box, you should find the following items with your monitor:

-Ring stand

-Plastic clip for ring stand

-VGA cable

-DVI to HDMI cable (the monitor has HDMI input, so you would plug the DVI side into your computer)

-Quick start guide & warranty info

-Power cord

PROBLEMS:

Unfortunately the one that I received had a small grouping of dead pixels and a faulty HDMI port. Needless to say, I returned the item, but will be purchasing another. I would have given this monitor a 5 star rating, but because of the dead pixels, faulty HDMI port and extra inconvenience I could only give it 3 out of 5 stars.

"Great LED monitor for an unbeatable price ..." 2010-03-16

By M. Prestel

I ordered the ASUS MS238H after a long comparison with other LCD/LED monitors and after finally receiving it, I'm glad I did. The monitor design itself is a beauty and even puts many newer LCD TV's to shame. The size is bigger than expected due to the frame dimension but it looks just amazing, especially if compared to my 6 year old Sony 19" LCD monitor.

As many reviews mentioned, the stand is somewhat different and doesn't allow for much adjustments (angle between 10 - 20 degrees) but it works for me. The monitor is lightweight and therefore easy to move but stands securely on my desk. At least I haven't noticed any shaking so far.

As for the LED touch buttons; yes, they are different than "normal" push buttons but in my opinion they react just fine, if you know how to use them. The trick is to not "push" or "press" on them but instead to slightly brush over them. If you can operate a modern cell phone with touch screen (i.e. iPhone or similar phones), the monitor controls shouldn't be a problem for you.

The technical details speak for themselves ... HDMI port, 2ms response time, full HD resolution, ultra high variable contrast ratio (in fact, the default settings are too bright and needed some adjustments) and of course, it's a LED monitor, which allows it to be very energy efficient. ASUS also provides a DVI to HDMI cable (along with a normal VGA to VGA cable for older computers) and setup with Windows 7 couldn't have been easier. After disconnecting the old monitor and a reboot with the new one connected to my DVI port, Windows adjusted itself to a full HD resolution and there was no need for any manual setup in Windows itself.

Some reviews for the slightly smaller ASUS MS226H reported that Windows 7 had some incompatibility issues, resulting in a downscale black edge around the screen at full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), but this LED montior didn't have any problems with my Windows 7 system. The screen is fully used and the picture quality is just beautiful. It almost seems like you can just grab whatever is shown on the screen. And despite the big screen, it arrived without any dead pixels, which was nice. Of course, with screens that size, having one or two dead pixels is usually not considered a faulty screen, it just happens and you have to live with it, but I got lucky.

In summary, I can only recommend that screen. For a price as low as this, you won't find any better bargain. I was originally thinking about buying the LG W2486L monitor (LED as well), but for over $100 more, it didn't offer any additional features (aside from a 1" higher screen size) that justified the higher price tag.
