This Pioneer product worked fine for the first 6 months of average use, but now only reads/writes CDs. It will no longer recognize DVDs. I am saddened when a product becomes crippled at such a young age.

Have not ried out the included software, but it has worked as advertised for reading CDs and DVDs.

Ok so I got my new fancy shmancy Imac and have used it for almost a year and out of the blue the SLOT loading drive decided to eat my Germs cd and NEVER spit it out again:( So the best solution to this( I still have time to fix it fer free, but I will be without my Imac for a few weeks) was to buy the pioneer external drive. It's flat so I believe it'll be good. And it has so far! Super speedy and works like a charm. It's a space hog, but I can live with that. It works SWELL and that is all that matters. Pioneer products are superb.

It seems to work good at burning CDs. The software that came with it is horrible and I stopped using it. I still have not yet burned a DVD with it because the software is only a trial version and won't let me burn a DVD.

I have a HP Pavilion a1220n with a HP DVD writer 740b. This particular DVD writer (740b) has been useless since I've purchased this desktop. I read numerous reviews about external DVD/CD writers and decided on the Pioneer DVR-X122S. I installed the Nero software and the Pioneer worked perfect. Excellent purchase and excellent seller. The Pioneer X122S has read every CD I've tried. It has also burned flawlessly as well. This was one of those purchases that turned out to be everything I could have hoped for.
