I was hesitant in buying a brand that I was unfamiliar with, but I couldn't turn down such a long-life battery! There are pros and cons with this machine. I enjoy it for class notes but I tend to not use it outside of the classroom. It's size is convenient and as long as you remember that it is not supposed to act as a supercomputer (super responsive) then you will probably be happy. Here are my $.02:

Cons:
-The glossy cover shows every fingerprint
-You need to pay attention when plugging the adaptor in to the port on the side. Sometimes there is the illusion of the plug being all the way in only to find out that a connection was never made. So just make sure to push it in with a little extra finesse.
-I have had this computer for 3.5 weeks and have had the same error with the mouse/keyboard/headphone jack. After various use times ( once was 15 minutes the other was 2+ hours), the function keys, headphone jack and autoscroll on the mousepad become unresponsive. There are multiple theories on why (overheating, driver issues) but the Asus tech support forums have never truly answered the issue. To fix it the first time I needed to reinstall the drivers (after a WHILE searching the web for a fix) and then the second time a restart solved the issue.
-It is also very unclear on how to access the camera.
-The mic is only good if you are using Skype or some other interface where you are talking into the mic. It is NOT good for classroom recording.
Either/or
The keyboard is a little loud when you are typing
For some people the screen may not tilt back far enough
I am one to read all the magazine and customer reviews and this was the highest rated. While I am keeping it, if I had to do it all over again, I would probably go with a brand I know and trust (i.e. has reliable support). But like many things in life, buying a gadget like this is personal. Hopefully this helped!

My battery charger was defective. It took me way too much time to find the number to call on the Asus website. It is 510 739 3777. I had to wait over 2 weeks to have it replaced and I needed to pay the postage. Not good customer service. But the computer is great.

Great notebook for students. Purchased this for my son at boarding school. He is required to bring a laptop or netbook to all classes since all teachers submit handouts, assignments and review work electronically.
He especially likes the long life battery and lightness of the product since he has to carry it with him all day in his backpack.
So far he has only given it thumbs up.

I've had this asus for about a week now. Was really skeptical prior to purchase since there are so many available makes and models all with similar price point. The asus beat out the rest with a longer battery life, and though it's a battery with many complaints filed against it, I've had no issues so far. The keypad is pretty decent given the size of these netbook and the screen is what I'd expected; it's nothing that increased txt size and a few tweeked windows settings won't fix. I had hoped there were more resolution size available, but that's not a big killer. Overall, so far, I must say that I'm pretty satisfied w/ my purchase.
