GOOD BUY FOR THE MONEY (<$250). I UPGRAED MEMORY TO 2GB FOR ANOTER $45. IF YOU ARE USED TO LARGER DISPLAYS, IT TAKES A LITTLE GETTING USED TO THE 10.5" DISPLAY.

Ordered this netbook on 1/6/10. Out of the box it booted up but connecting to the internet required a call to Asus, who refered me to my router manufacturer. after 7.5 hours on the phone and five calls back and forth the router fried itself and burnt out. We did manage to get the Asus on-line. It's a long story.
During the two weeks of waiting for a replacement router under warranty, I used the Asus on line via direct ethernet connection to my Time Warner cable internet.
No matter what website, from Yahoo to eBay I went to the pages take a while to load. Noticably slower than my Mac Book Pro. Facebook site really freaks this thing out for some reason. Makes my curser flash erratically.
Oh, did I mention that I paid extra for another gig of ram?? I installed it before initial boot up so I have no point of reference as to whether or not it made a difference...
Over the past few weeks Windows 7 has been nothing but annoying. Pop up windows announcing I need updates. Pop up windows saying I need to use my free trial of some anti-virus software that came pre-installed with the computer. Pop up windows asking me if I want to run "System" when opening a new program for the first time...
Annoying, indeed.
Also, when I shut down the netbook, often it automatically goes on-line to check for updates, tells me it found them and then without a way to opt out begins to download them. Last time it said it needed 23 updates! this took over 15 minutes to download before the computer shut off. This was annoying because I was packing it up to go to work and had to wait before disconnecting the computer. Good thing I wasn't running late!
Then when I turned it back on I had to wait about the same time as the computer installed the updates. Again, without asking, it just did it.
I could go into boring details citing specific examples of the Asus/Windows 7 shortcomings that lead to my overall dis-satisfaction about this netbook but suffice it to say that I find the O.S. to be inundated with useless, redundant features that are intended to simplify things but in the end just make it more complicated to use. they may have cleaned up vista and introduced 7 but it's buggy and slooooow!
Now, today, Internet Explorer is running weird and the "wait wheel" spins on and on while it's trying to load a page or display what I am typing.
As for the keyboard, the keys feel cheap and I have more typos on this key pad than any other computer, even on my iphone!
The screen is not vivid at all. Colors don't look crisp no matter what setting I try.
The extra battery power I purchased (10.5 vs 6) is not as claimed. Running it unplugged I get about 7.5 hours of logged use so far.
the materials are chinsey. the shell is shinny slick plastic and glossy. really ugly and easily shows smugges and attracts dust.
Buying this netbook was a mistake and I'm going to return it.
A Linux based netbook or notebook will be it's replacement.

This is a great little computer. It handles everything I need it for, including word processing, web, grading, spreadsheets, etc. Because I need a computer with me when I travel, it's the perfect size - my work laptop is much heavier and bulkier. And the best part is the multi-hour battery life - fabulous! And Amazon's price beat everyone else by far...

I deducted points for the terrible 'touch pad'. It alone would be reason enough for me to reconsider the purchase of another 3e PC from ASUS. The touch pad is that bad!
My ASUS 3e PC 1005 crashed for no apparent reason within 30 days of purchase. After a complete 'restore' it has run well, if it was not for the OMG touch pad I could live with it!
