The netbook itself provides great portability, sufficient processing power for surfing the web and checking email and has a cool, retro Apple look. It takes a while to get used to the small screen. I would have rated this item a 5, but for the fact that the power adapter died last week--six months after my purchase. I only use the adapter when the charge on the netbook requires it (battery life is great, as advertised), so a couple of times a week. When searching for a replacement, I noticed comments about the PA which I didn't see when I originally researched this netbook. I don't know if Asus has a higher percentage of bad adapter's and if I was just unlucky, but 6 months is too short and adds a significant price premium to this product. Shipped prices for a replacement range from $30 (black) to $40 (white). Hopefully, the new PA lasts for so long as I keep using the netbook.

I find that the asus is a good product, but audio is quite low. To solve the problem, I found a program that will increase the volume level to almost twice the original volume. Just search the internet to find a program to do this.

I was not 100% sure about this product, i use mac and other windows os computers, but, with this item, i'm happy now, i purchased this product on august 31 2009, almost 6 month with the EEE, i use this EEE like a everyday computer, is running like the 1st day, no problem with the OS, i can use anything on the EEE, all my digital cameras, usb devices, external hard drive, writers, etc, the only thing i can't do is editing or view HD videos 720p and 1080p, but, i watch all types of videos, mp4, avis, divx, etc, and the stream videos looks great, u can connect a external monitor in 1440 x 900. Resume, for a practical computer, to go anywere, easy carry, u can run all office documents, and edit your photos, download music and watch movies and videos, is a great buy, ASUS u make a great portable computer (netbook). thanks ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Yo no estaba 100% seguro por este producto, uso mac y otras pc con windows base, pero, con esta estoy feliz, la compre en agosto 31 del 2009, ya casi 6 meses, la uso todos los dias, corre como nueva, no problemas con el OS, le adapto todas mis cosas, camaras, disco duros externos, etc, lo nico que no puedo hacer es ver o editar los videos HD de 720p a 1080p, pero, veo todos los demas videos, avis, mp4s y todos los videos stream. En resumen, es una portatil super practica, la llevo donde quier, editos mis fotos, documentos , navego por la web, es y fue una muy buena compra, ASUS hizo una exelente portatil. Gracias

I purchased this netbook for my wife for Christmas. She absolutely loves it! So far she has only used it only for surfing the web, some on line gaming but mostly chatting on line with her family who are all overseas. Prior to getting this netbook she would have to sit at my desktop to chat or she would walk around using the phone. You can imagine my phone bills. But, with this netbook she is all over the house and in constant communication with everyone via the web cam. The only downfall I have with it is that we live in our own little reality show now because she always has the webcam on! She has said several times that this is the best present ever. She has gotten more use out of this than any vacation, jewelry, clothing... Definitely would recommend this netbook.

I deliberately delayed my review of this netbook, because I was aware of power cord problems with this model from earlier reviews. This was my one hesitation in purchasing this machine. Unfortunately, I am one of the unlucky ones. The first cord failed within the first week. The second cord has just failed, and I am dealing with ASUS re replacement. The replacement will probably take a week, and I will have to pay postage one way -- under warranty.
Meanwhile, I have purchased a second cord for back-up from a different manufacturer. Hope that one works.
The Eee 1005H itself is an attractive machine, easy to set up (as promised), and the keyboard is very similar to my laptop -- much easier to use than two earlier versions of Eee that I have used. Battery life is as advertised (when the power cord works) -- a full 8-9 hours.
I have the XP version and am happy with it. I do a lot of videos and can work with QuickTime videos on the machine with no trouble. My other software programs work seamlessly as well.
As with other reviewers, I removed a lot of trial programs to free up space. Once this was done, the computer works faster than my elderly laptop.
The power cord problem is a true annoyance, because when the cord fails, the computer is completely unusable. If this problem didn't exist, this would be an easy 5-star rated machine.
