"Worked well until it broke" 2009-08-02
By Miles J (Huntington, New York United States)
I purchased this product last year with the intention of using it while traveling, during power outages, and while waiting for appointments. Over the last year I probably used it 5 times. I kept it secure in a case, and was very gentle with the product(when in use and when not). I am a person that is very particular about their electronics, and this product was treated with the utmost of care, and it still broke.

It worked well in the beginning, but suddenly stopped reading the disks. At first I thought it was a faulty disk or two, or it was having trouble with light scratches, but I tried brand new dvds and still the same problem occurred. I was lucky, and had purchased the extended 2 year warranty(I got it in a store), b/c I had read the issues that many people had with a lot of portable dvd players.

Unfortunately if it had not broke, the product would be wonderful for my needs. It was small, cheap, and did the job. The screen is clear, and the features are easy to operate. The volume can be a bit on the low side, but there is a place to use headphones. The battery plays about as long as one movie, and then can be recharged.

 "DVD Player" 2009-04-14
By Julie R. Winters
Works as advertised. Wish there was a power button on the remote as it times out sometimes when paused and you have to get up & turn it off & then back on. But my 2 year old can use without any problems. Screen is a smaller than I would prefer.

 "Works great!" 2009-03-31

I bought this for my kids for Christmas and it's awesome. They love taking it into their room to watch a movie when grown up movies are too boring.

Excellent product.

"I want to beat this thing with a hammer almost every day!!" 2009-03-26
By Beth Hutson (Roanoke, VA)
When I first bought this DVD player about a year ago, it worked just fine, (although the spinning of the disc has always been a little loud for my taste) but more and more and more it gives me trouble. The problems started about six months ago with having problems reading the discs. Lately, it has trouble reading the disc almost every time. Usually I have to try several times to get the disc to read, after it does, it randomly freezes.

Other than sliding the player a little closer to me on my desk, this player has never been moved.

I would recommend against spending the money on this product. (I want to mention that this is the first negative review I have ever written.)

"Very good DVD player for low price" 2009-01-24

I purchased this as a gift so I cannot do an in depth review but I did test out some of the features. This unit is completely black, the finish is flat black which is vey cool giving it a stealth fighter look. The quality is pretty good too and the design is very stylish...thumbs up to Toshiba. You do get a lot of value at this price. The package comes with many accessories...remote, car adapter, A/V output cable, 3 hr battery.

One of the cool things about the battery is that it attaches to the back side of the player and not under it so it doesn't add to the thickness of the player which is good. The battery is pretty small too so it doesn't stick out the back too far. The buttons on the unit look very nice and expensive and the layout is simple. The grille that covers the two built-in speakers are designed nicely too, they blend in and don't stick out like a soar thumb. Overall the deisgn is very modern industrial purposeful. None of that cheezy stuff.

As a DVD player it works well, the screen is pretty good with brightness and color adjustments. There are two headphone jacks and there is also an optical digital output. The unit has a built-in energy/screen saver that takes effect after 20 minutes of inactivy (LCD turns off) then 20 minutes after that the unit powers off. There is also an A/V input so you could use the LCD as a monitor for another attached device.

One thing that might be of concern is the fact the top portion of the player is heavy so if you tilt the screen back too far the unit may easily tip over. This player can play MP3/WMA files stored on CDRs or DVDs as well as JPEG slide shows according to the specs. It can also operate without the battery being attached with the include AC adapter however you cannot charge the battery and play discs at the same time. When charging you cannot use the unit, but it isn't a big deal when you really think about it. Ideally you would want to have the battery fully charged and ready to go for portable use anyway. For non portable use you have the AC adapter.

In all of my research this was the best DVD player at this price.
